Background Changer: Pick Any Colour

Upload a photo, let the model lift the subject off its old background, then choose a new solid colour with the picker, a swatch or a hex code.

Sent securely, processed, and never saved.

Change the background color of an image without an editor

Swapping a backdrop usually means opening a layered editor, selecting the subject, inverting the selection and filling. This page compresses that into two decisions: which photo, and which colour. Everything between them is automatic.

The cutout comes from BiRefNet, an AI model that runs on Cloudflare. It keeps fine detail such as hair and fabric edges, and the colour you pick is placed behind it. If the original already had a transparent background, the colour simply fills the empty area.

Pick a colour: swatches, hex and brand shades

The colour preset gives you two ways to choose. Swatches are quick when you only want something clean, such as light grey, sky blue or warm cream. The hex field is for exact matches, which matters when a picture has to sit on a branded page or inside a design.

  • Light neutral shades suit portraits and catalogue pictures.
  • Saturated colours work for posters, social posts and thumbnails.
  • Match a hex code from your site or app so images blend into the page.
  • Try a contrasting tone if the subject has a similar colour to the old background.

From transparent to colour

Many people arrive with a transparent PNG that they want to place on a solid colour, for example before sharing it on a platform that shows transparency as black. Upload that file and choose a colour; the transparent pixels become that colour. For a transparent output instead, use the transparent background maker.

Good uses for a solid-colour backdrop

  • Profile photos that match a team or company palette.
  • Product shots with a consistent coloured studio feel, as an alternative to plain white.
  • Stickers, avatars and thumbnails that need a bold backdrop.
  • Slides and documents where a picture should blend into the page colour.

If you want a picture or scene behind the subject rather than a flat fill, try edit photo background. If you want to keep the original surroundings but soften them, use the blur background tool.

What happens to your photo

The photo goes over an encrypted connection to the site's server, the background is removed, and the cutout comes straight back to your screen. The site does not save or keep images. Location and camera metadata are removed from the copy that is sent.

Images up to 20 MB and 4096 px on the long side keep their full size. Anything larger is scaled down before processing. You can process 30 images per day for free, with no watermark.

How to change the background colour of an image

  1. Add your image

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the box, or tap to browse. HEIC only works where your browser can read it, such as Safari.

  2. Let the cutout finish

The model removes the old background once. It takes a few seconds, and the subject is then ready to sit on anything.

  3. Set the new colour

Pick a swatch or type a hex value such as #1E88E5. The preview changes as you choose, so try several.

  4. Download

Save as JPG for a flat colour image, or PNG and WebP if you prefer those formats.

Questions

How do I change the background of a photo online?

Upload the photo, wait for the cutout, pick a colour from the swatches or type a hex code, then download the result as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Can I use an exact brand colour?

Yes. Enter the hex code in the colour field and the preview updates immediately.

Can I change the background color of an image that is already transparent?

Yes. The transparent area is filled with your chosen colour. Export as JPG if you want the colour saved as part of the picture.

Will hair and edges look natural?

The model handles fine edges well on most photos. Check the preview, and pick a colour close to the original backdrop if you see a faint halo.

Does it cost anything?

No. It is free, there is no account and no watermark. There is a daily allowance of 30 images per visitor.
