Edit Photo Background: Use Your Own Image

Cut a subject out of one photo and place it on a different picture, such as a beach, an office or a studio wall, without opening a layered editor.

Sent securely, processed, and never saved.

Swap the scene, keep the subject

Solid colours are fine for catalogues, but many edits call for a real scene: a person on a holiday backdrop, a product on a wooden table, a portrait in front of a skyline. This tool takes two uploads. The first is your subject, which gets cut out. The second is the picture that goes behind it.

The new background is placed with a cover fit. That means it is enlarged until it fills the frame and the excess is cropped, so you never see blank bands. Pick a scene with a similar shape to your subject photo for the least cropping.

Make the composite look believable

A cutout on a new scene looks convincing when light, scale and angle agree. A few checks make the difference between a sticker look and a natural photo.

  • Match the light direction: if the sun in the scene comes from the left, choose a subject lit from the left too.
  • Match the perspective: a subject shot from above rarely fits a scene shot at eye level.
  • Match the colour temperature: warm indoor light on a subject looks odd against a cold snowy scene.
  • Keep the sharpness similar: a very crisp subject on a soft, out-of-focus scene looks natural, the reverse does not.

Where to find background pictures

Use your own photos first: a trip, your office, a room in your home. If you take them from elsewhere, check the licence so you are allowed to reuse them. Landscape-oriented images give the most flexibility, because a cover fit crops less when the scene is larger than the subject frame.

When you do not need a picture

If a flat colour is enough, the background changer is quicker. For a clean catalogue look, use the white background maker. To keep the original place but make it soft, use blur background. And if you just want the cutout to place in a design tool later, the transparent background maker exports a PNG with the empty area preserved.

Privacy and limits

Both images go over an encrypted connection to the site's server, are processed, and come straight back. The site does not save or keep images, and location and camera metadata are removed from the copy that is sent. Files up to 20 MB and 4096 px on the long side stay at full size. Each visitor can process 30 images per day free, with no watermark.

How to replace a photo background with another image

  1. Upload the subject photo

Add the picture containing the person or object you want to keep.

  2. Wait for the cutout

The model separates the subject from its old surroundings. This runs once and usually takes a few seconds.

  3. Add the new background

Choose the Image preset and upload the scene. It is scaled to cover the whole frame, so nothing is left empty.

  4. Export the result

Download the combined picture as PNG, JPG or WebP.

Questions

How do I change the background of a picture to another picture?

Upload your subject photo, wait for the cutout, choose the Image preset and upload the new scene. Download the combined picture when it looks right.

How is the new background fitted?

With a cover fit. The scene is scaled until it fills the frame and anything extra is cropped, so no blank edges appear.

Can I add a background to a photo that is already transparent?

Yes. A transparent PNG works as the subject, and the scene fills the empty area.

Why does my edited picture look fake?

Usually the light or perspective of the two photos differs. Pick a scene lit from the same side and shot at a similar height.

Which formats can I export?

PNG, JPG and WebP. JPG is smallest for sharing, since the scene fills the whole frame.
