Passport Photo Background Remover

Upload a portrait, get a plain white background and download it as a JPG. The tool only changes the background and does not check official rules.

Sent securely, processed, and never saved.

What this tool does, and what it does not

Passport and ID photos nearly always ask for a plain, light background. This tool removes whatever is behind you and fills it with white. That is the only thing it changes. It does not crop, resize, align your head or check that the picture meets any official standard.

Before you take the photo

A good source makes the cutout cleaner and reduces the risk of rejection. Rules vary, but the following habits help almost everywhere.

  • Face the camera straight on with a neutral expression.
  • Light your face evenly so there are no strong shadows across it.
  • Stand a little away from the wall so your shadow does not land on it.
  • Avoid clothes that match the background colour, which can confuse any automatic cutout.
  • Keep your hair away from your face if the rules ask for it.

Checking the result

The model is trained for general subjects and people, and portraits are a strong case for it. Still, hair is difficult, and flyaway strands can leave a faint halo. Zoom in on the head and shoulders before you download. Results are not guaranteed to be perfect, and an authority may reject a photo that looks edited or has an uneven edge.

Some offices require that a photo be unaltered or taken against a real plain wall. If that applies to you, read the instructions before using any editing tool.

Sizing and printing

This page keeps your picture at full size when it is up to 20 MB and 4096 px on the long side. Larger ones are scaled down first. For exact dimensions, such as 35 by 45 mm or 2 by 2 inches, you will need a crop or print step elsewhere, based on your country's rules.

Privacy

Your photo is sent over an encrypted connection to the site's server, the background is replaced and the result returns straight to you. The site does not save or keep images. Location and camera metadata are removed from the copy that is sent. A free daily allowance of 30 images applies per visitor.

For other colours, try the white background tool or the background changer.

How to set a white background on a passport photo

  1. Take or choose a portrait

Use a front-facing photo with even light on the face. JPG, PNG and WebP files work.

  2. Upload and wait

The model separates you from the backdrop. It usually takes a few seconds.

  3. Use the white preset

The background is filled with plain white. Check hair and shoulders in the preview.

  4. Export as JPG

Download a JPG, which is the format most photo upload forms and print services expect.

Questions

Can I use this for an official passport photo?

It sets the background to white, but it does not validate compliance. Check your country's official rules for size, background shade and head position before you submit.

How do I remove the background from a passport photo?

Upload the portrait, wait a few seconds, keep the white preset and download the JPG.

Which format should I export for an ID photo?

JPG is what most upload forms and print services expect. PNG and WebP exports are also available.

Does it crop the picture to passport size?

No. It only changes the background. Cropping to your country's exact dimensions needs a separate step.

Is it free, and is my photo kept?

It is free with no account or watermark, up to 30 images a day. The site does not save or keep images.
