Photo Cutout: Cut Out Image Background

Upload a photo and get the subject cut out on a transparent background, ready to drop into a collage, sticker or thumbnail. It is free, with no account and no watermark.

Sent securely, processed, and never saved.

What a photo cutout is for

A cutout isolates one subject from its surroundings so you can reuse it somewhere else. The usual jobs are easy to name: a person pasted onto a poster, a product placed on a colourful banner, a pet turned into a sticker or a face lifted into a video thumbnail. All of them start with the same thing, a clean subject on a transparent layer.

Cut out, then compose

The reliable workflow has two parts. First export your cutout as a PNG so the transparency survives. Then stack it in the tool you already use for layout. Any editor that supports layers will keep the empty areas clear, so the new background shows through behind your subject.

  • Collages: cut out several photos and arrange them on one canvas.
  • Stickers: a cutout with a clean edge is ready to be given an outline in a design tool.
  • Thumbnails: place a cutout face on a bold background to make it stand out.
  • Product images: put a cutout on a plain or lifestyle backdrop.

Getting a better outline

The model is trained for general subjects and people, so most everyday photos need no help. Still, a few habits make a visible difference. Use the largest version of the photo you have, since more pixels around the edge mean a smoother outline. Prefer pictures where the subject is clearly separate from the background, and avoid heavy motion blur on the edges.

Results will not be perfect on every photo. Busy scenes, glass, smoke and objects that blend into the backdrop can leave rough edges that you may want to touch up.

Choose a different backdrop without leaving the page

Beyond transparent, the same upload can be placed on white, on any colour, on your own image or over a blurred copy of the original. That makes quick edits easy, such as a flat colour behind a headshot. For a full guide to swapping scenes, see edit photo background.

Size, privacy and limits

Images up to 20 MB and 4096 px on the long side keep their full size, and larger ones are scaled down first. The photo travels over an encrypted connection, is processed on the site's server and comes straight back. The site does not save or keep images. Location and camera metadata are removed from the copy that is sent. Each visitor gets 30 free images a day.

If your goal is simply a PNG with nothing behind the subject, the transparent PNG tool explains how alpha works and which export to choose.

How to cut out a subject from a photo

  1. Pick the photo

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP into the box. Photos of people, pets, products and objects all work.

  2. Wait for the cutout

The model outlines the main subject and clears everything else. This usually takes a few seconds.

  3. Inspect the outline

The checkerboard shows what is transparent. Look closely at hair, fur and thin parts.

  4. Export as PNG

Save the PNG and bring it into your layout, editor or slide.

Questions

How do I cut out a photo background?

Upload the photo, wait a few seconds while the AI model removes the background, and download the cutout as a PNG with a transparent background.

Can I cut out a person from a photo for free?

Yes. The tool is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Each visitor gets a free daily allowance of 30 images.

How do I use my cutout in a collage?

Export it as a PNG so the transparency is kept, then place it on a layer in your editor or design app. The new background shows through the cleared areas.

Why are the edges around hair not perfect?

Fine hair and fur are the hardest part of any automatic cutout. The model keeps edges soft, but zoom in to check, and touch up in an editor if needed.

Is my photo stored?

No. It is sent over an encrypted connection, processed and returned, and the site does not save or keep images.
