Works in Safari, no install

There is no iPhone app for this tool, and you do not need one. The page runs in Safari, which also means nothing takes up space on your phone. Add the page to your Home Screen from the Share menu if you use it often.

Step by step on a phone

  1. Tap the upload box and choose Photo Library. Pick the picture you want to cut out.
  2. Wait while the picture is processed. A few seconds is typical.
  3. Choose what goes behind the subject: transparent, white, a color, another photo or a blur.
  4. Tap download. Save to Photos to use it in Messages, Instagram or any other app, or Save to Files to keep it.

About the model on phones

The AI model (BiRefNet) runs on the site's server, so your phone is not doing the hard work. Fine detail such as hair, fur and thin straps is the hardest part for any model, so check the edges before you share.

HEIC and iPhone photos

iPhones often save pictures in HEIC. Safari can read HEIC, so choosing a photo straight from your library generally works. Other browsers may not read HEIC. If a picture is refused, share it as a JPG or take a screenshot, then upload that.

Apple's own subject lift

iOS has a built-in option too. Touch and hold the subject of a photo in the Photos app and you can lift it out, then copy it or drop it into another app. It is quick, free and handy for single pictures. This tool is useful when you want a transparent file you can export, a solid or white background, your own image behind the subject, a blur, or a whole batch with the bulk background remover.

Good photos give good cutouts

  • Shoot in good light and keep the subject in focus.
  • Leave a little space between the subject and the edge of the frame.
  • Avoid backgrounds that match the subject's color too closely.
  • Wipe the camera lens; smudges soften edges.

Privacy and limits

The photo goes over an encrypted connection to the site's server, the background is removed and the result comes straight back. The site does not save or keep images, and location and camera metadata are removed from the copy that is sent. You get a free daily allowance of 30 images per visitor. Pictures up to 20 MB and 4096 px on the long side keep full size; larger ones are scaled down first.

Questions

How do I remove the background from an image on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap the upload box, choose a photo, wait a few seconds and save the cutout as a PNG.

Is there an iPhone app?

No. There is no iOS app. The web page works in Safari, and the Android app is separate.

Can I remove a background from a photo with the iPhone itself?

Yes, the Photos app can lift a subject out by touch and hold. This tool adds export options, solid or custom backgrounds, blur and batches.

Why does my transparent PNG look black in Photos?

Photos shows transparent areas as a solid color. Paste or open the file in another app and the transparency is intact.

Does it work on older iPhones?

It works in any current Safari. The model runs on the server, so an older phone does not slow the cutout.
