Why logos need a transparent background

A logo with a white box around it looks fine on a white page and bad everywhere else. Put it on a coloured header, a photo, a video overlay or a printed mockup and the box shows up like a sticker. A transparent PNG removes the box so the logo sits directly on whatever is behind it.

  1. Use the largest source you have. A 2000 px logo cuts out far better than a 200 px thumbnail.
  2. Check edges at 200 percent zoom in the preview, where anti-aliased pixels become visible.
  3. Avoid screenshots of logos on busy web pages. Find the original file or a clean export instead.
  4. If you own an SVG or vector file, keep it. Vectors scale to any size, while a PNG is fixed at its resolution.
