Blur Photo Background Online
Keep the person or object sharp and soften everything behind it with an adjustable blur, for a portrait-style look on photos taken with any camera.
Sent securely, processed, and never saved.
A portrait-style blur on any photo
Cameras with large sensors and wide lenses blur backgrounds naturally. Most photos from everyday cameras do not. This tool recreates the look afterwards: it finds the subject, keeps it untouched, and applies a blur to everything else.
It is a classic Gaussian-style softening, not AI generation. Nothing is invented or redrawn, so the background keeps its original colours and shapes, just out of focus.
Choose the right blur strength
The slider runs from 2 to 30 px. Low values give a gentle depth-of-field hint, and high values turn a street or room into soft colour patches.
- 2 to 8 px: subtle depth, good for product shots where context should stay readable.
- 10 to 18 px: the usual portrait look, where the background is clearly soft but still recognisable.
- 20 to 30 px: strong blur for hiding a messy room, a crowd or a car park.
- Large photos may need a higher value than small ones to look equally soft.
Best photos for this effect
Clear separation between the subject and the scene helps. People standing in front of buildings, pets on grass and objects on tables all work well. Busy photos with several overlapping subjects at different distances are harder, since the model picks the main one.
Blur is useful for hiding things you would rather not show: a cluttered desk behind a video call screenshot, signs in the background of a street portrait, or other people walking behind you.
Blur or replace?
Blur keeps the sense of place. If the place itself is the problem, remove it with the transparent background maker, choose a clean tone in the background changer, or put another scene behind you with edit photo background.

Questions
How do I blur the background of a photo online?
Upload the photo, wait a few seconds for the subject to be found, choose Blur, set the strength and download the result.
Is it free to blur a background?
Yes. There is no account and no watermark, with a daily allowance of 30 images per visitor.
How strong can the blur be?
From 2 to 30 px. Start near 12 for a portrait look and adjust from there.
Does it use AI to generate a new background?
No. The AI model only finds the subject. The background is the original, softened, so nothing is made up.
Can I blur out only part of the picture?
The tool blurs everything except the main subject it detects. For other cases, use the subject cutout and a different background.
